Jim Mathews
Jim Mathews is Washington bureau chief for the real-time news operation of Aviation Week's AviationNow.com, a business-to-business aviation and aerospace Web portal. He worked with the team that launched the Web publication.
Mathews has been a reporter and editor for 19 years, working in radio, magazines and daily trade journalism. Positions have included financial editor of Aerospace Daily, executive editor of the Spotlight on Finance quarterly review, and chief editor of two biweeklies -- Aero Safety & Maintenance and Aviation Week's Knowledge Business -- that he developed and launched in 1997.
For the last decade he has been deeply involved in several efforts to take advantage of the world of electronic publishing, serving on a design team to create Aviation Week's online service on CompuServe and the team that created the Aviation Week Newsletters' Web site.
He started his career in radio news, covering politics and business in upstate New York before joining ABC Network Radio News in 1983. There, Mathews helped coordinate and produce live coverage of the major political conventions, the hijacking of TWA Flight 517 and the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger.
