Three editors assess the present and advise on the future
Sarah Flynn
A sociology major, Sarah Flynn began her editorial career during college by working on a social science magazine. She edited an alternative weekly before becoming an editor at Houghton Mifflin, where she worked with such writers as Pat Conroy, Jimmy Breslin, Carolyn Chute, Tracy Kidder and John Kenneth Galbraith.
Flynn is now a freelance developmental trade book editor for both fiction and nonfiction writers. They have included Betty Boyd Caroli (The Roosevelt Women), Orlando Patterson (Ritual of Blood: Consequences of Slavery in Two American Centuries) and Iris Rainer Dart (Show Business Kills).
Flynn also has worked on such special projects as the report of President's Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments, published by Oxford University Press as The Human Radiation Experiments.
She declines to work on many book ideas and manuscripts from lawyers.
